Interview on March 15th, 2007

Name: CaiphusDots

Date of Birth: August 3 1974

What is your favourite colour?
Caribbean Brown!

Favourite artist(s)… local or otherwise?
Bosco Holder, a great Trinidadian painter. Sean Barber, an amazing artist in San Francisco and Lucian Frued… his work is uncanny.

In a nutshell, what do you do?… what medium… and how would you describe your genre?…
I love all mediums. Computer, pencil, oil paint or pastel. You name it and I do it! But my genre… my work is Urban Contemporary. That, to me, is the best way to describe my style of art.

How did you first get an interest in art?
It was just something that came to me naturally and after a while I developed a passion for making art.

Where/How did you learn?
Started attending art school when I was 7… and as they say, the rest is history.

A brief history of your career…
My career started in Boston where I first began creating artwork for a small video game company. Shortly after, I moved to California where I spent 6 years creating artwork for the top video game publishers in the industry. Recently I grew tired of games and my interest in fine art returned to me… so I moved back to Miami to pursue my dream of becoming a great visual artist and establishing a new career closer to the Caribbean.

What are some of your current art projects, personal or otherwise?
I am focusing on my fine art career by establishing gallery shows and constantly creating art. I also do graphic design as well as photography.

What are some of your upcoming projects, personal or otherwise?
I will be starting work on my own children’s book.

Hobbies?… What do you do for kicks?
Favorite hobby is limin! After that would be reading, watching movies and doing anything active… like playing sports, mountain biking or snorkeling.

What’s your favourite food?

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
A lion… so I can lay around whole day and have 6 women catch my food!

Okay and finally… what are your long term career/life ambitions?
To become one of most respected contemporary artists… and have my work hanging in galleries from Trinidad to Taiwan.

Many thanks… anything else you’d like to add?
To any young artist… see the art and become it.
