Brush Teeth

In a nutshell, what do you do?… what medium… and how would you describe your genre?…
I’m a cartoonist/illustrator. I dabble in graphic and web design. I’m the creator of the syndicated comic strip, “Watch Your Head.” With WYH, I combine pencil, pen and computer techniques to achieve the end product.

How did you first get an interest in art?
I grew up reading comic books and submerged in the culture.

Where/How did you learn?
I honed my skills at the Me Institute. I’m almost completely self-taught, with the help of the internet and knowledgeable friends.

A brief history of your career…
Like I said, I’ve been drawing since I was a toddler. My professional career began in 2003, when I became the staff illustrator and editorial cartoonist for Howard University’s newspaper, the Hilltop. That year, I also created the comic strip, “Watch Your Head,” as a back-up feature for the paper. In 2005, I signed a deal to have WYH syndicated to newspapers around the US and the world (well, Trinidad and Canada). The strip now appears in close to 20 newspapers.

What are some of your current art projects, personal or otherwise?
I produce WYH 7 days a week. It leaves little time for much else. I have a fledgling web and graphic design enterprise.

What are some of your upcoming projects, personal or otherwise?
Once I can clear out some personal time, I intend to work on some comic book projects.

Hobbies?… What do you do for kicks?
Well, since my hobby is now my job, I may have to find new hobbies. For now, I’ll start with Freecell

What’s your favourite food?
Pelau? Goat roti? Those two might have to arm-wrestle to the death.

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
Either a Mexican Hairless or a dolphin.

Okay and finally… what are your long term career/life ambitions?
I’m trying to get that Garfield money.
