What is your favourite colour?
Favourite artist(s)… local or otherwise?
If I had to chose a local artist then I would chose Beverly Thomas because of the vibrant colours she uses.
My favourite artist is really Soa Lee. She does really realistic Character models.
In a nutshell, what do you do?… what medium… and how would you describe your genre?…
I am a 3d artist. I do 3d modelling and animation. My programs of mass destruction(POMd?), cinema 4d, After effects, Photoshop, itunes(very critical). My work is product based and commercial because that’s the market and thats what sells but I prefer to specialize in Character Animation.
How did you first get an interest in art?
My mom painted, my eldest bro draws some real good comic art. My younger bro is a 2d graphic artist so im guessing its somewhere in the levis. I think my passion for 3d erupted from my exposure to all the games I played when I was younger, along with the comics and movies I looked at.
Where/How did you learn?
I learnt visual art at Fatima college(cxc) sucked at it. Lol
Spent some time on my own learning Maya. Sucked at that.
Then I got a job at a local company named Create3d. That’s where I got formal training in architectural modelling and from there I was self taught from the internet and many forums.
A brief history of your career…
Um I used to bag groceries at HILO Maraval….that was fun. Then I got a job at create3d which is where I work presently.
What are some of your current art projects, personal or otherwise?
Well Im working on a personal character animation. I plan to enter it in the animae caribe.
What are some of your upcoming projects, personal or otherwise?
I plan on modelling downtown Port-of-Spain for use in future projects maybe even for sale. Google earth might be a possible prospect.
Hobbies?… What do you do for kicks?
What’s your favourite food?
Hawaiian eye, sweet and sour chicken. Check them out.
If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
A Panda because they can camouflage in an Oreo factory.
Okay and finally… what are your long term career/life ambitions?
To own an animation company in Trinidad producing animated series for local television, creative pieces for ad agencies as well as producing content internationally. My life goal is to never bored of my work.
Many thanks… anything else you’d like to add?
Put God first in all you do. Also there are a lot of people coming out of secondary school wanting to get into 3d and not knowing how to achieve it. College isn’t the only way. There are a lot of 3d artists that are self taught. Anyone that wants advice can feel free to email me. Check my site at http://leightaylor.wordpress.com.
