Zaheer Singh

Interview on June 23rd, 2009

Name: Zaheer SinghWicked Things

Date of Birth: 19th June 1975 (yes my mom was in labour on Labour Day).

What is your favourite colour?

Favourite artist(s)… local or otherwise?
I have a number – Pascal Blanche, Dean Yeagle, Michael Turner, Jim Lee, J. Scott Campbell and Sean ‘Cheeks’ Galloway.

In a nutshell, what do you do?… what medium… and how would you describe your genre?…
Well I do Character Modelling, along with its texturing and rigging. I currently use Maya 2008, ZBrush 3.1 and Photoshop CS3 to accomplish this. At the moment I do this as a hobby but would love to get into it professionally. I model any character I can get my hands on, mostly I love doing cartoony, pixarish characters.

How did you first get an interest in art?
I loved art for as long as I can remember, as a kid continuously doing sketches of characters and scenes. Now being able to turn 2D to 3D makes it so much more rewarding and exciting.

Where/How did you learn?
I am self taught, with some guidance from friends who did this at university level. Also thanks to the ‘World Wide Web’ a lot of tutorials and advice can be found.

A brief history of your career…
I used to work at a label company doing a number of things from quality control to research and development to job costing. I then moved to another company to do tallying and inventory.

What are some of your current art projects, personal or otherwise?
Currently I am working on a model of Hercules I saw as a sketch.

What are some of your upcoming projects, personal or otherwise?
I’ve wanted to do a model of Skeletor for a long time, after the Herc I’ll start it.

Hobbies?… What do you do for kicks?
I love playing video games, watching movies (horror movies in particular), reading comics or Stephen King novels.

What’s your favourite food?

If you could be any animal, what animal would you be and why?
Dolphin, why, they are so carefree and energetic.

Okay and finally… what are your long term career/life ambitions?
Well I would like to advance myself into also doing animations and perhaps one day work at an organisation doing 3D stuff and actually be part of the completion of a project.

Many thanks… anything else you’d like to add?
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you can’t do something. Once you put your mind to it and apply yourself you can accomplish anything.
